In this video you can see Goth Girl 4Eve completing a frosted doll cake. She begins with a base cake in the shape of a lampshade or angel food style pan with a small plastic doll inserted in the top (or doll top half). A creamy white frosting is smoothed over the bottom with a spatula, then more frosting is added to the midriff of the doll with a pastry bag and rosettes (decorating tip). More rosettes form the cap sleeves and enhance the waist, the hem and the skirt. For the skirt, go around it in tiers, creating the image of a tiered skirt, leaving an inch or so opened in front. Pipe ruffles around the bottom edge lavishly. Add ruffles around the skirt tiers next, going over each tier and remembering to leave an open space in the very front of the strips. Draw streamers down the back with a thin wavy strip of a pastel (slightly darker than the white) frosting. With this frosting also make a bow on the back waist. Make another thin 'sash' and bow at the front waist (white or the lighter color), letting it come down the open space. Go back over the back and add a thick curving piping (white or lighter color) over the first layer of sash and bow and place three jumbo rosettes prettily at the center back waist. Place a doll hat on top and it's ready. This was a communion cake.
